“We are so often caught up in our destination that we forget to appreciate the journey, especially the goodness of the people we meet on the way. Appreciation is a wonderful feeling, don't overlook it.” -Unknown

Vacation with two young children can mean running from one activity to the next and turbo speed dining at local restaurants before one of the kids explodes. It's jammed packed with fun and chaos which usually means complete exhaustion by the end of the day. And though we were tired, my husband and I seized the moment yesterday and snuck away to celebrate our anniversary. Seven years to be exact. With the grandparents around, we were lucky enough to "celebrate us."
As we sat down at a local coffee shop, we found ourselves talking about everything else but "us." We talked about the kids, work and the daily grind. Not much celebrating going on there. And then something happened. A woman struck up a conversation with us and asked how we met. Soon our story unfolded. We laughed, smiled and reminisced about those early days when everything was new and magical. We giggled over the fond memories and essentially began to celebrate the story of us.
Whether this woman at the coffee shop knew it or not, she had given us the space to remember how we got here in the first place. We were given the chance to appreciate our journey together and recognize our accomplishments as a couple.
And how many of us forget to reflect on the moments? In the midst of all the chaos, when do we take the time to acknowledge the dots that connect our picture? Instead, we worry about the "should" and "have to" that comes with looking ahead.
So when you throw your noodles, remember to take the time to recognize where you started. Whether it be an anniversary, business venture or any personal quest, appreciate the first few steps you've already taken and recognize how far you've come. I guarantee, when you look ahead and throw your noodles, they will go farther and have a sweeter ending.
