The Wednesday Simmer - Don't change yourself, Create Yourself

“When patterns are broken, new worlds emerge.”  Tuli Kupferberg

My husband and I have been on this healthy eating kick ever since the new year.  I realized how often I was finishing my kid's meals and how when I was completely sleep deprived, I went straight for the sugar.  The words of "When my kids are older, then I can exercise," didn't feel like a valid excuse anymore.  I was tired of myself.  I felt sluggish and just plain icky.  So as my hubby stopped eating dairy and fried foods because of cholesterol issues, I too decided it was time to change my ways.  I've laid off the sweets and I go to kickboxing at least four times a week in the wee hours of the morning.  I only watch one show a week so that helps with the night time snacking and every other night, I work for two hours and then get a good night sleep.

Sure.  I've changed my ways and it feels good.  But sometimes that hungry thief voice comes knocking and wants me to go back to my old patterns. After all, it's hard to change and it is so much easier not to care.  But luckily, as my hungry thief started to make sense in my head, my kickboxing teacher brought me back to reality.  He said.......

"Don't try and change yourself.  Create yourself."

When he said these words, I imagined myself sketching out the woman I see inside of me.  A woman that can do anything and be anything with a little passion to ignite the fire.  Those simple words gave me that refueling that I needed to make sure I didn't give up on myself or the woman I know I can be.  Those two simple sentences felt like a second chance, a rebirth and a new beginning.  Now who doesn't want that right?

I've given myself the chance to live a better life.  One that makes me smile, that is full of energy and that makes me feel good about myself.  The hungry thief certainly can't compete with that.

So give yourself a chance and don't think of it as change.  When you decide to throw those noodles, think of it as creating the person that you've always wanted to be.  All you have to do is say yes and start creating.

Welcome to the Noodles On The Wall Blog, a place where I share the trials and tribulations of a creative noodle maker. (That's me!) My life is full of noodles and I've learned it takes a dash of inspiration and a pinch of creativity to throw them up on the wall to see if they stick. Hope you stick around!
