Tell us about your NOW (Noodle On the Wall)

Educating others is my sweet spot, so I connect with prenatal and child-friendly businesses in Toronto and beyond to facilitate cloth diaper education workshops. I offer a new cloth diaper trial program facilitating families to date cloth diapers before the big commitment, which encourages families to try using a variety of cloth diapers before deciding which ones to invest in.

Is your NOW simmering, al dente or fully cooked and why?
changeMatt is simmering! As with any great noodle dish, a little bit of time and just the right ingredients can take you from good to great! I have several special ingredients that are being prepared and will be launched over the next several weeks and months to help changeMatt become a favorite dish for eco-savvy and natural families.

What recipes can you give other Creative Moms Taking On The Creative?
Asking is a powerful recipe for success. Right from the beginning of my entrepreneurial journey, I have reached out to people and businesses that share the same ideologies as me and simply asked if we could dialogue about ways in which we can work together. I always share my vision and what I can offer them, and ask to continue the conversation. The growth and connections that I have made through this simple strategy are amazing.
What motivated you to throw your noodle?
While beginning my own cloth diapering journey, I found that there was a lack of resources available in Toronto to educate families on reusable diapers. As a new mom, I also felt overwhelmed by all the information on the internet and really just wanted to get my hands on some cloth diapers to see how they worked and which ones suited my family best. To determine which cloth diapers I preferred for my little man, I invested money and ended up with several that were not quite right for our needs.
I decided to throw my noodle and began changeMatt because I wanted to help families’ experience, touch, and fall in serious love with cloth diapers through a variety of avenues.

The business name, changeMatt, was the inspiration of my husband after he spent several weeks listening to the recurring themes in my ideas.
changeMatt has three prongs to the name:
a) The physical item, change mat, where cloth diaper changes take place.
b) The action of changing Matt (my littlest man) into cloth diapers.
c) The loftier eco friendly goals of change matt which include responsibility and education about the products and choices we make for our children and within our community.

What inspires you as a Mom and as a creative person?
"Mom, Mama, Mommy," these gorgeous words from my little boys are the best inspiration I could have. I am also continually inspired by my family and others to be ever changing and reflective on life and the world.
How do you juggle Mamahood and your NOW?
Life is often a seesaw. Sometimes my family gets more of me and sometimes my NOW does, depending on what is scheduled. My iPhone calendar is in constant use to manage all the tasks in my business, professional and family life.

Sara's hubby with boys
My husband is really the one who makes it happen for me. He gives me the quiet time and space to work and takes many of the daily tasks off my plate. He knows I’m a dreamer, brimming with aspirations and he wants to help me achieve all my goals.
It is a priority for me to spend quality time playing and snuggling with my boys each day and the bedtime routine is sacred in our house. At least one day on the weekend is spent on adventures as a family.

What is your ultimate pasta dish?
My ultimate dish would be to grow changeMatt into a resource for families and individuals interested not only in creating an eco-savvy lifestyle but also in building diaper security for families in their communities. By educating and making cloth diapers accessible, families are able to spend their resources on other life necessities while also contributing less waste to the environment.
