Our new Stick Of The Week! is Kris Campbell. Kris is in the NOW as a dedicated home schooler and artist. "Mothering has been the most fulfilling and most challenging of all. It has required me to change deeply and allowed me to view myself anew."
Kris Campbell
Kris Campbell is a wife and mother to two children (Jules and Jazmine). She home schools her little one and still finds time to express her creativity thru her art. In the past, Kris worked as a graphic designer, artist and assistant at her parent's company. NOW she is working towards creating beautiful art thru embroidery.
Tell us about your NOW (Noodle On the Wall)
The current projects are large scale portraits done in cross stitch embroidery using door screen - the kind you use in your door to keep the bugs out.
What does the soul look like? Thinking of the soul as it just leaves the body....It still has the imprint of the body it was contained in.
Jules Embroidery Portrait Close Up
I use door screen because it is a permeable barrier, lets the air/soul through but the body stays behind. Time is a constraint of our bodies and the embroidery expresses that. The colors have a physical presence. The stitches are big enough to visually fall apart when you come up close. The experience of viewing the work is different from far away or up close. Like the relationship with the person.
Is your NOW simmering, al dente or fully cooked and why?
Just getting the ingredients ready. I have found a way of communicating visually what I want to. This has taken years. I can look back on all my work and see threads that lead to the current work, but I have not found a way to get the pieces out of the house and let them live on their own.
What recipes can you give other Creative Moms Taking On The Creative?
In the early years, life is messy and mothering is really important. There will come a day when you can get to what is simmering.

Jazmine Embroidery Portrait
What motivated you to throw your noodle?
My daughter's birth. She brought a light into my world that had been missing for years. It took a few more years to find a medium that I could work in.
What inspires you as a Mom and as a creative person?
Children. Their pureness. They are not self-conscious. They expose their souls so graciously.

How do you juggle Mamahood and your NOW?
Not very well. I work like a fiend for two months and then sleep for a month.
What is your ultimate pasta dish?
Anything someone else cooked.
