JOHN MALINO MUSIC
Tell us about your NOW (Noodle On the Wall).
As the Director of Marketing and Sales for John Malino Music. I have the wonderful job of booking the most fabulous musicians- the John Malino Band for weddings, corporate parties or concerts. We also have Classical and Jazz Artists for ceremonies, cocktail hours, events and our DJ Drumcussionist Gellypop to get the beat going just about anywhere. I am privileged to work with these talented musicians.

Is your NOW simmering, al dente or fully cooked and why?
Oh, always simmering! When it’s fully cooked, I better head on to a new NOW! The creative process, be it mothering, painting or marketing music is just that. A process. So, I’ll enjoy the bubbles as they shoot to the top. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll get burned occasionally and learn something along the way.
What recipes can you give other Creative Moms Taking On The Creative?
Two things:
Don’t wait for the time to come to you. Make it happen. Even if it’s an hour or 2 a week to write in a journal, or sketch some flowers, plan a new business venture or take a class.
You don’t have to be “good at it”. Take a risk, it’s the process not the product.
What motivated you to throw your noodle?
I followed my instincts and gave it a whirl. I was attracted to the sales and marketing end of music, promoting musicians who are not naturally good self-promoters. I want to keep live music alive. It feels good.
I’m also an artist. I have been painting for 20 years but it all started by taking one evening class.

What inspires you as a Mom and as a creative person?
My mother was a huge inspiration. She was so graceful and patient and artistic. She wasn’t one of those moms who needed to play in the sandbox with her kids. But she was always there in the “background” so to speak. Her love was a given and still guides me today. And my dad. He had always loved acting. After 37 years of practicing law, he moved to nyc and started acting. He now has his SAG and Equity cards and has been working away. It’s never too late.
How do you juggle Mamahood and your NOW?
Occasionally, a noodle will snap. But, come on Mamas, let’s be a bit easier on ourselves. We aren’t and never will be perfect. Getting a good babysitter has been essential, someone I trust. Also, using the school hours (if your kids are in school) to the best of my ability. And asking my husband to take the reigns a bit more.

What is your ultimate pasta dish?
Dangerous question. I am from the deep South (Montgomery, Alabama) and did not see a real clove of garlic until college. My mom cooked but didn’t enjoy it. So, on that note, I’d recommend angel hair pasta with bottled marinara sauce, just add cream and you’ve got my kids favorite pink sauce! Good with broccoli on the side. (Forgive me, all you gourmets, but, as I said, we Mamas aren’t perfect.)
