Our newest Stick Of The Week! is Ophira Edut. Ophira is in the NOW as co-author of the newly released book, Momstrology (Harper Collins). They say kids don't come with instructions, but Ophira and her twin sister Tali, also known as the AstroTwins, beg to differ. Their new book Momstrology, is devoted to helping you discover your parenting style by the stars. As the astrologers for ELLE.com and TV Guide, The AstroTwins reach millions each month with empowering, practical horoscopes for every part of your life. You can check out their website, Momstrology.com, a “spiritual toolbox” for parents aiming to raise self-aware and mindful children. It’s for mystical mamas and divine dads who want to reconcile their personal identities with their new roles as parents. Get free daily, weekly and monthly horoscopes, and fresh content on their websites Astrostyle.com and Momstrology.com.
My noodle is a new astrological parenting book called Momstrology (Harper Collins, April 2014) and a companion website, Momstrology.com. The book is a comprehensive guide that details the moms AND the kids of every zodiac sign, as well as a mom-child matcher. The kid chapters cover everything from discipline to finding the right type of school, to activities and temperament. The mom chapters show what every zodiac sign is like as a mother through the ages and stages, from birth to age 18. Believe it or not, the information is very practical. We want this book to be a helpful, validating tool for moms. There’s even a section explaining how to use astrology to understand your child’s birth chart. We have a “cosmic conception calendar” to figure out what sign your kid will be, an astro-guide to choosing a caregiver and also a little “dad decoder” horoscope!
Our website Momstrology.com covers astrology and beyond, and our tagline is “for mindful and mystical mamas.” It’s a spiritual toolbox for conscious parents who want to raise self-aware kids, tapping into astrology, numerology, yoga, and other modalities. It’s soulful, but it’s also light and fun! Along with a weekly momscope and astrological profiles for every family member, including pet horoscopes and a mother-in-law matcher! We also post thought-provoking articles on everything from style to sex-ed, to family dynamics and quick rituals you can do to be present with your kids in these busy times. We also have interviews with influential and celebrity moms. Everyone from Dr. Christiane Northrup to a few of the Real Housewives!
Is your NOW simmering, al dente or fully cooked and why?
The Momstrology book is a freshly strained pot o’ pasta: it’s just hitting the shelves this month! Momstrology.com is al dente, since we just relaunched its expanded version in February.

What recipes can you give other Creative Moms Taking On The Creative?
Don’t try to force yourself to follow some preset formula. Do what you can every day, or almost every day, since you want to avoid boxing yourself into anything too rigid. Have fun with it and do things in bite-sized chunks. Fire the committee in your head that’s judging everything you do while you’re at it. Starting a creative project or even a passion-based business has to be an act of kindness to yourself. As a mom, you’re always going to feel like you’re “failing” in some area of life, and facing the blank page of creativity can drive that feeling up even more. Just as parenting teaches us there are really no rules except the ones that work for you, so too does creativity. And hey, since having a kid is really the ultimate creative act, it makes sense!
What motivated you to throw your noodle?
I've been writing daily horoscopes (and now weekly and monthly) since 2002. I've realized that people turn to astrology during times of change and uncertainty, or when there are a lot of major decisions and transitions. Motherhood is one of those times. In fact, the top things our private astrology reading clients ask are about love, career and family. Checking your horoscope is sort of like taking out a mystical insurance policy. Finding out when the stars align for best timing, or just learning more about your nature can help you feel more confident moving forward. Nothing kills dreams and creativity more than "analysis paralysis."
As the mom of a three-year-old daughter and a 14-year-old stepdaughter, astrology has been a natural tool for me in understanding them, and also in being kinder to myself as a mom. Researching the Momstrology book, I saw that every zodiac sign has natural strengths and weaknesses when it comes to parenting. We also detail these on the website at http://www.momstrology.com/momscopes. Knowing about my sign has helped me be more compassionate toward myself, and also how to work on my weak spots. For example, my sign, Sagittarius, is said to be impatient. That is true for me. My daughter Cybele, a Libra, is the most slow-moving, stop-and-smell-the-roses sign. I've realized that she's a great "teacher" for me, forcing me to pace myself, be present and to live in the moment instead of always thinking about what's next.

What inspires you as a Mom and as a creative person?
So many things, but usually they happen in little moments or “pleasure pockets.” I love looking at beautiful spaces in decorating books and magazines (I call them “interior design porn”). Spending a day in NYC and renting a private karaoke room with friends—just belting out those power ballads is the world’s best stress reliever! Conversation and connecting with like-minded friends, preferably over great food. As a Sagittarius, the “lifelong learner” sign, I’m constantly seeking new ideas and terrain to explore. As a mom, I haven’t gotten to travel as much as I used to, so I have to enjoy adventures of the mind. I love reading New York magazine and yes, celebrity gossip rags, taking online courses and reading books whenever I can. I have a zillion on my iPad ranging from neuroscience to self-help, to terrible fiction all about 73% read before I end up starting another one.
How do you juggle Mamahood and your NOW?
Not always successfully, but when you drop the balls as a mama-juggler, you just pick ‘em up and keep going. I have been known to multitask (many horoscopes have been typed over my daughter’s head while she was breastfeeding—she probably narrowly escaped a bald spot from it!). It takes a village, so leaving the city to have a great nearby daycare, fresh air and nature, gives me the peace of mind to focus on my work. I grew up in Michigan right outside Detroit, so I couldn’t reconcile sending my daughter to concrete playgrounds or dealing with college-style applications to get her into preschool. Kudos to anyone who does, but that just didn’t feel like how I wanted to use my creative energy.

What is your ultimate pasta dish?
I will feel like shouting "mangia!" when I know that the book has helped moms find self-love, to laugh at their own quirks and to realize that their children are unique beings. More than any other group, mothers are put through the "saints or sinners" wringer and with the Mommy Wars being at their all-time worst, I'm hoping that Momstrology waves the white flag of peace. I want to help people realize that there's no "one size fits all" way of parenting and that in a sense, kids DO come with instructions.
