The Stick Of The Week! With Jennifer and Enjoli From Macaroni Kid

Our latest Stick Of The Week! is Enjoli Joseph and Jennifer Ahn.  Both Enjoli and Jennifer are in the NOW as publishers of Macaroni Kid, a website and weekly e-newsletter that dishes the scoop on the best events and activities for kids and families in the Nyack, New City, Bardonia, and Orangetown communities in Rockland County, New York.  The Macaroni Kid newsletter also lists family-friendly articles, including recipes, crafts and travel ideas.  Thanks to their relationships with various organizations and businesses, Enjoli and Jennifer have been able to host a variety of giveaways on their site as well.

Enjoli is a mother of two, Andrea (7) and James (2). She has been married to Jimmy for almost ten years and lives in New City. Enjoli loves to vacation with her family, spend time with loved ones and enjoying a Law and Order Marathon in her spare time. Enjoli is also a scary movie JUNKIE!

Jennifer is a teacher and mother of 3 who is also happily married to Jimmy (yes, their husbands have the same name).  She loves to do jigsaw puzzles and drink a hot cup of coffee.  Jennifer  also enjoys singing and dreams of one day being on The Voice!

Tell us about your NOW (Noodle On the Wall).

Our NOW is New City/Nyack Macaroni Kid (MK).  We have been working together for the past 2.5 years.  Enjoli started MK 3 years ago with another partner.  When the partnership ended, I (Jennifer) happily joined.  We really are a match made in heaven.  We are the “ying” to the other’s “yang.”  The fact that we work together as teachers as well as personal friends, makes this experience all the more enjoyable.

Is your NOW simmering, al dente or fully cooked and why?

We say al dente only because we have only really started to get more involved in the community. November 1st we are hosting our second Family Fun Day at the Nyack Center.  Last year, we hosted a fundraiser for the Nyack Homeless Project where we were able to raise over $2,000 to support their efforts.  Our goal is to continue to host great events for our community.

What recipes can you give other Creative Moms Taking On The Creative?

We have learned through trial and error and through many busy days.

Ingredients:

See the “Big Picture”

Hard work

Honesty

Open Communication

Procedure:

Prioritize. Make a list and write everything down.

Take it one day at a time.

YOU run the business, don’t let the business run you.

Outcome:

Long lasting relationships, making an impact in the community and loving our work!

What motivated you to throw your noodle?

We realized that MK was just what our community needed.  Before MK, we really were not aware of events going on unless we heard about them word of mouth (usually after the event took place).  Being able to host events for the community and give back really makes us happy.  Plus, we are GRATEFUL for the opportunities that we have been able to give our children.  They have had experiences that we could never have been able to afford.  Our children’s lives are enriched thanks to MK.  MK has truly changed our lives for the better (and really strengthened our friendship on many levels).  Yes, we really do love each other.

What inspires you as a Mom and as a creative person?

Our family, and most importantly, GOD inspires us as Moms.  We want to be the best that we can be for our families, while staying true to ourselves.  All we want is for our children to be happy and healthy… the rest are added benefits.

My inspiration comes from other moms and families.  Watching other creative moms do great things with their kids makes me inspired to do creative things for others.

Enjoli does not consider herself creative at all, but she is more creative than she thinks.  She just doesn’t want to admit it.  Watch her teach and you’ll see creativity.
How do you juggle Mamahood and your NOW?

We are still juggling Mamahood and probably always will.  We are both full-time teachers.  Enjoli teaches 6th and 8th grade science and I teach 5th and 6th grade social studies.  Juggling our professional lives with our NOW and families is what we do each and every day.

Enjoli is VERY organized!  She has a monthly calendar in her bedroom that is color-coordinated with all the family events taking place.  Enjoli’s philosophy is to focus on her professional life all day so that when she comes home she can be the best wife and mother she can be.  Of course, once summer hits all bets are off!  Enjoli has accepted that there is only so much that she can do in one day.  She prioritizes and does the best she can.  I think Enjoli is doing a great job!

As for me, I juggle Mamahood and MK with a lot of prayer and a lot of lists.  Everyday is a struggle to get it all done.  With 3 kids who have busy schedules, a loving husband, a full time job, and MK --- miraculously it gets done.  I’ve learned that if it doesn’t get done, it doesn’t get done.  There’s always tomorrow.

What is your ultimate pasta dish?

Enjoli LOVES anything with cheese: Manicotti or Ravioli are her favorites.

I like Penne a la Vodka, Chicken Parmagiana with spaghetti on the side and I like a good baked ziti!

Welcome to the Noodles On The Wall Blog, a place where I share the trials and tribulations of a creative noodle maker. (That's me!) My life is full of noodles and I've learned it takes a dash of inspiration and a pinch of creativity to throw them up on the wall to see if they stick. Hope you stick around!
