Our newest Stick Of The Week! is Harshita Malhotra. Harshita is in the NOW as Photographer/Owner of Avnida Photography, photography specializing in the fine art of children’ portrait photography, including newborn, baby, children, family and maternity. Avnida Photography is the work of newborn and celebrity photographer Harshita, who is a member of Professional Photographers of America (PPA) and has traveled across the country to study under some of the country’s top newborn photographers like Julie Klassmeyer. She is an accomplished NJ baby photographer whose work in NJ newborn photography, child photography and maternity photography has been recognized as ‘perfectly perfect’ by top photographers in the country.
"I'm a photographer, a mother, a wife, a friend, a confidant - well, let's just say I am a woman and wear many hats, well pretty much like all women do. But the fun is in juggling them all and doing it well. Photographing my daughter and other kids, I have learned the intricate details - of lenses, lighting, setup, and of course the most important, keeping kids engaged - to capture every little moment of their activity and personality, to cherish forever."

Is your NOW simmering, al dente or fully cooked and why?
It’s simmering, but I keep serving it and making some more. I guess that’s how it is, right? As women, we are always looking to do something more, for our business, for our families. Avnida Photography has been in business for around 2 years, and we have many happy clients, thanks to learning from some of the best photographers in the country like Julie Klassmeyer.
What recipes can you give other Creative Moms Taking On The Creative?
Every good recipe is based on three things: the right blend of spices, the best ingredients and the passion for making something delicious. Creativity is no different. First and foremost, you need to have the passion. I have two Masters in Computer Science and a honors in Maths, but I couldn’t see myself without a camera. If you heart tells you something again and again, perhaps it’s time to listen. Second, focus on the ingredients. I have focused on a long-term business and therefore I buy equipment that will deliver the results. Third, the right blend. This is completely about emotions. I spend a lot of time on consultation with my clients to understand what they want out of the photographs.

What motivated you to throw your noodle?
The smiles! When I see the smile on parents faces when they see their precious newborn baby in cute poses and hats, it is heart warming. Or the smile when the baby turns one year and it’s a mess all over for the cake smash session.

What inspires you as a Mom and as a creative person?
As a mom, my daughter is my biggest inspiration. As a creative person, the newborns inspire me. I love to capture the innocence and beauty of each child as they interact with the world around them. It’s so fresh and refreshing.

How do you juggle Mamahood and your NOW?
With the help of my family. My husband is a big supporter of my NOW and helps with chores and taking care of our daughter. I think that every woman needs to have her NOW to create a role model for the other girls in her life. That desire, to create something that my daughter and nieces can look up to, keeps me going.

What is your ultimate pasta dish?
Angel hair pasta with fresh garlic, basil, with a hearty marinara sauce and chicken. Ok, you just made me want to go out and have the dish.
