"You brought back many memories that I could really relate to. Yes, even the dog!! The only part missing for me was the creative aspect!!"
Let me just say that this woman is totally a super hero and the most successful multi-tasker EVER! She is a Mom to four kids and a Grandma to eleven! Yes. You read right. Eleven grandchildren! If being a Mom actually meant you could make a salary, she'd be earning six figures! Let's just leave it at that.
After reading her email, my noodles started bubbling and two thoughts came to mind. What exactly is the definition of creativity and how do you spell Wikipedia?
Creativity: Refers to the phenomenon whereby a person creates something new (a product, a solution, a work of art, a novel, a joke, etc.) that has some kind of value.
Synonyms include cleverness, imagination, originality, vision, resourcefulness.
I literally got giddy after reading this definition! As Moms, aren't we constantly creating something new? Just this week I made a whole lot of new things happen out of thin air. I kept my son occupied in a waiting room with a game of "random things in Mommy's purse," I whipped up a new and improved cauliflower mac and cheese for the anti-veggie phase AND I made a really cool fort out of towels, sheets and a pack and play. As Moms, we are clever, imaginative, original, visionaries and most importantly, we are resourceful. Essentially, we ARE creativity. What we create may not feel "new" to us, but it's "new" to our kids. So if you're a Mom, like my mom-in-law, who can't relate to the "creative aspect?" Think again Mama! You are using your creativity every day to help your kids grow, communicate, invent and ultimately, become good people. Now that's got some value!
So why not use that valuable creativity and create something new for yourself too? Make space or as I like to call it, take a pause for creativity! Whether it's a moment in nature, volunteering, starting a business, writing in a journal, starting a new project, dancing like a super star, or getting a pedicure, carve out the time to begin "something new" that has "value" to you. Because when we take a pause, the noodles really start bubbling :)
This coming week, I invite you to take a pause for creativity and see how valuable it can be for you, as well as your kids!
Creativity:
Refers to the phenomenon whereby (insert your name here) creates something new that has some kind of value.
