Our latest Stick Of The Week! is Shelly Erez. Shelly is in the NOW as the curator and owner of Studio Shellyka. Shelly lives in northern Israel with her husband, Mark and two boys (4,6). Her Etsy shop is called "Shellyka" and her Hebrew business name is called "KishkuShelly" (kishkush means doodle in Hebrew).
My specialty is in designing for babies, nurseries and children's rooms. I enjoy using a variety of colors to create colorful designs, yet I love my designs clean and calm to make a peaceful environment for the room.
Tell us about your NOW (Noodle On the Wall)
I have been an independent business owner for three years now. After my second son was born, I wanted to stay with him and couldn't go back to my old job. I was a social worker for seven years and I wasn't happy with my job. I couldn't figure out how to combine my day job with being a mom, so I decided to stay at home with him until his first birthday.
Soon after, I opened my business, Studio Shellyka and started to sell my products at fairs. The first year was not easy, yet my husband believed in me and encouraged me to continue. My business grew fast as I opened my Etsy shop and it helped me learn how to manage an online business while being a mom of two young boys.
Is your NOW simmering, al dente or fully cooked and why?
I live my business 24/7. I'm dedicated to it and love everything about it. My home studio is actually one of the rooms in our apartment so there is not any separation between my personal life and my business. My husband is very involved in my work, from the marketing, to the vendors' connections, and answering clients. We are always online (computer or the App in the IPhone) answering people from all over the world. It feels like my NOW is always simmering.

What recipes can you give other Creative Moms Taking on the Creative?
I must say that the things I consider most important in my business and my creativity is to enjoy my life, my family, keep spreading love, and of course, being a positive person!

What motivated you to throw your noodle?
My customers! Their wonderful feedback and when they tell me that they loved what I have created for them. Sometimes they even send me photos of my items in their children's' rooms – it is sooo cool!
What inspires you as a Mom and as a creative person?
My biggest mentors are my children and I have to admit that they inspire me with the smallest things. We create stories together and I'm always surprised with their wonderful imaginations. They give me many fantastic ideas!
My older boy loves to watch me working and he is always interested in any new craft material I'm working with. He loves to try it and spends hours sitting with craft materials. My second son thinks that every product I have in my studio is created just for him and he always gets really offended when I'm telling him that I created this for another child.

How do you juggle Mamahood and your NOW?
Wow! This is hard! I work from 8 to 3:30 and pick up my kids from school. Then I start a new work shift around 9pm. I'm usually so tired at the end of the day, I'm falling asleep on the couch. But in the end, I'm enjoying it very much. The fact that I don't have a boss on my head and that I have full control over my schedule means I can stay with my kids when they are ill or if I need to, I can bake a birthday cake.
What is your ultimate pasta dish?
Love my pasta with mushrooms and cream sauce. Yummy!!
