Back in February 2012, my husband Glenn decided that he wanted to invite some friends over for a monthly drum circle. Now I love myself some good ol' drumming, but I never actually hosted such an event. I went along with it though, knowing that my husband needed an escape from the daily grind. I watched Glenn come alive as he led each monthly drum circle in our living room....each one better than the last. What was most inspiring though was how Glenn patiently let his drum circle evolve into a unique experience filled with an eclectic mix of music, beats and meditation. The response was amazing, and soon, he bust out of our living room and into a local restaurant in Nyack with a dedicated following. It was an amazing journey to witness, but what was even more delicious, was the way daddy's drum circle sparked curiosity, passion, empathy and creativity in my kids.
When I decided to teach our children the power of giving by donating to a charity of their choice this past holiday season, one particular cause resonated with my kids. Clean Water. They couldn't understand why everyone didn't have access to clean water. How a community could fall apart or thrive based on the cleanliness of their water. How could they help? What could we do besides donate money? I'll never forget their faces as these questions tumbled out of their mouths. That's when we decided to Take On The Creative and give daddy's drum circle some purpose.
We took action and created The Drink & Drum Challenge, creating awareness for clean water. Our kids were so excited that they stepped up to be a part of it too. In fact, here they are taking on the challenge and passing the rhythm on.........
