We celebrate both Chanukah and Christmas so the holidays can get a little overwhelming in terms of making sure that there is meaning behind all of the gift giving. As a child, I always felt the magic of the holidays. It was in the food, in the family traditions, in the stories and the gifts. After my son's very first holiday season, my husband and I decided that we wanted our family to have that special magic we had as children, but also the type of magic that grows the heart. So, every year we talk about the importance of the holiday season and how giving from our hearts is the greatest magic of all.
So, right before Christmas, we take out a big bag and my children sort through their toys. They decide what they will keep and what they will give away to other kids who don't have what they have. This is our fourth year doing this, and my children look forward to it. Sometimes they give toys away that they no longer play with and sometimes, they give away something extra special. It is totally up to them. It's amazing how much they learn from giving.
Happy Holidays and a very Happy New Year!!
See you in 2014!!!
